A new “ terrace ” in Iceland

The project is proposed as a reinforced concrete platform, a massive block positioned in the vast Icelandic hinterland.
On the slopes of the Skíðasvæði Mývetnings í Kröflu ski slope, the basement offers refuge to skiers and travellers, offering a series of welcoming and warm spaces, spaces designed for sharing and social interaction.

The platform forms the basis of a large terrace, designed to admire the landscape surrounding the ski resort.
On the same terrace there are two elements, with the characteristic pitched roof, places designed to be the fulcrum of sharing and contact between the patrons of the ski resort. The internal spaces, characterized by the prevalence of wood as a construction material, accommodate sharing spaces and kitchens available to all guests. The warm atmosphere of these environments contrasts with external nature and its climatic conditions. Energetically speaking, it was decided to equip the project with a heating plant that uses geothermal heat, a very important energy source in Iceland, thanks also to the strong presence of volcanoes throughout the island.
